Living in the Moment - The Moment is Now
By dougnau on Apr 12, 2008 in Consciousness, Life Coaching
Last night, after my wife and daughter had gone to bed, I stayed up late to soak in some more of our holiday. I read a bit, listened to music, and contemplated a blog article that would adequately wrap up this wonderful trip to Puerta Vallarta. It was not until I sat down just moments ago that the most appropriate and relevant coaching topic came to my head….
Living in the moment
We all dream about the future. Some of us plan far in advance, others of us simply hope for the best. If you are a planner, a dreamer, or someone like me is always wondering ‘what’s next’, it takes a conscious effort to pull yourself back into the moment. Someone once told me that the culmination of our entire past can be summed up in where we are right now in this moment. I am not sure that I completely agree with the statement, but it gets one to think. Right now is the sum of where my past has brought me, its a launching point for my future. I exist neither in the past nor in the future, I always exist ‘now’. So how do I choose to spend this moment?
Well, I’ve taken a few minutes to think about it and this is my last full day of holiday. I’ve enjoyed a full week of buffet’s throughout the day, the beach and pool in the AM, side trips to Puerta Vallarta and Nueva Vallarta, afternoons writing coaching articles, evening strolls with the family on the beach, and nights of relaxation and reading. Rather than writing a lengthy article on how to live in the moment (I’ll let you figure that out yourself), for the next few hours while my daughter naps, I am going to enjoy the sounds of the ocean, a cool Corona, and the opportunity to do nothing - I’ll be busy enough Monday.
If its been a while since you’ve consciously considered the question, ask yourself what would you do to best live in the moment right now? Live and act appropriately. Until next time….
