Dear
[firstname,fallback=reader]

The new year is upon us and with it comes the opportunity and potential to do something new and exciting. The changing of the year has become a symbol of renewal, rejuvination, and one of hope for positive change. With it comes an excitement and an energy that far too often dissipates as the weeks and months pass by. Did you know that fewer than 10% of people that set New Years Resolutions actually achieve their goals?  I hope you enjoy the article in the next section on how to successfully reach the goals you establish for the new year.

Today's Article: Achieve your goals in 2007!

Many of us make a new years resolution - only about 10% of which are ever fulfilled!  Personally, I refrain from creating my own new years resolution, simply because each and every day provides the opportunity to make positive change in our lives.  Why wait for the beginning of a new year to start something new, or to give ourselves the recognition for accomplishing something we set our minds to at another date?
Whatever your personal philosophy, the new year break does provide a unique opportunity for us to do some soul searching to see if there are areas we'd like to enhance or fulfill in our lives.

Some of the top new years resolutions include: Losing weight, spending more time with family/friends, taking time to enjoy life, quitting smoking/drinking, becoming organized, exercising, getting out of debt, and educating ourselves.  Do we see a theme?  Essentially people are looking to enhance their quality of life and their personal wellness.  Given such a tremendously admirable, courageous, and fulfilling set of goals - its a wonder that only 10% of people actually achieve them.  Instead of looking at what people fail to do in accomplishing their goals, lets take a look at what the 10% do in successfully completing their goals.  These are simple steps that anyone can take to improve their likelihood for success.

Get support: Don't be a lone ranger doing everything on your own.  Ask a buddy if they are willing to join you, call you, and constantly enroll you in your vision.  If you don't have someone that fills this shoe, you can always enroll a coach!
Be clear of your vision:  Do you really know what it is you want to accomplish or is it a vague goal?  Make sure your goal is specific and clear.
By when?:  Have a clear date by which your goal must be completed.  This is not flexible - if you peg it as being flexible, you are giving yourself room to push it off.
Write it down:  Make the goal visible to yourself - and others!  The more you see your goal, and the more others see it, the more the goal is present in your mind and the more accountability you have towards achieving it.
Don't give up and have compassion:  Its easy to talk ourselves out of our goals, dreams and desires.  When we get closer to taking action towards something big - the conversations in our head become stronger and stronger suggesting we should have never tried!  This is normal!  Recognize that the dream is bigger than the conversation in the moment and pursue the goal - you are worth it!  If we happened to listen to the conversation yesterday and lets say we had an 'eating binge', have compassion for yourself and move forward. Thats no reason to give up.

For those looking to set some new goals in 2007, you may find the following tools useful in turning these into a reality.
1)  Guided visualization.  Learn to write your vision and use it as a source of motivation in attaining your goals.
2)  Use my free goals report tool to develop an inspiring goal and get regular reminders to track your progress
