Living for Today
Dear Reader,
If you are like me, you might constantly find yourself thinking about
tomorrow. What will our yard look like when the trees grow?
Can you imagine when our daughter will talk? How is our
retirement planning going? What will my health be like in ten
years?
These and similar questions are common ones that we spend a lot of energy entertaining. Enjoy the article below -
'Living for Today' which discusses our infatuation with the
future and how to center ourselves back to living in the moment.

Today's Article: Living for Today
When
I coach people, I have the extreme privilege to listen to the
collective wisdom as well as the interesting 'conversations' that
others have about turning their dreams and desires into a reality.
As a coach I encourage people to dream big, to take
action for the future, AND
to live for today. Often people put today on hold for a future
outcome as if living for the future excluded the option of living for
today! This is something that I personally did many years
ago and I've since learned by experience that being present to the
moment is a much sweeter way to live.
This moment in time is the ultimate result of our life's work and
journey. Its the culmination of our experiences, it is the
resting spot we find ourselves in - always! Being content with life
right now is the ultimate goal as there is no other time we will ever
experience than now. In order to be content in the future, I must learn
to be content now as the future is simply now at a different point in
our life. In training ourselves, its important to learn to be content with the happiness, the joy, the
sadness and sorrow as we will live through all of these. Simply put, be content with the experience of being
a human being and be conscious of that experience!
If you've followed me so far, the question to ask ourselves then is not
what can I do today such that I will glean a benefit tomorrow - rather
the question should be what can I do today that will be in alignment
with who I am and what I value.
If you value your health, what can you do today that would be a
demonstration of this? Take the action today and life is sweet -
go ahead, try it! You don't need to be a certain weight to be
pleased that you took the actions that demonstrate your intention to be
physically fit! In another example, if you've always wanted to
write a book, take out the notepad and begin writing - you'll be amazed
that the energy this will give you right now!
I've had the pleasure of setting hundreds of goals with hundreds of
people and tracking their progress over time. When people are moving
forward there is a sense of excitement in the air and I often ask them
to take a step back and share what they are experiencing. How
wonderful it is to be excited - and to recognize it! How
wonderful it is to take a step back from our busy schedule and to
appreciate being a human being!
For those of you looking at goals that seem overwhelming or distant -
take a simple look at today and ask the following questions:
1) what is the purpose of your goal - what personal value are you entertaining? How is it fulfilling to you?
2) what small action can I take today that would would fulfill the
personal value underlying the goal? (it might even help me make
progress toward it)
Take this simple step and you'll find that living in the moment, will
not only be the secret for today's success- but will also be the secret
for success in the future.
If you are interested in exploring these questions further or to work
with a coach to reach your goals while keeping present to life in the
now, contact me any time to discuss how coaching might work for you.
