TODAY'S ARTICLE:  FAIL MANY TIMES FOR SUCCESS

What is the key to success with respect to creating lifestyle change?  The answer may surprise you.  The key to success is mastering failure.  Michael Jordan, in a Nike commercial, summed it up best when he said:

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

You may be wondering what you have in common with Michael Jordan - a better question to ponder is what can I learn from Michael Jordan. Clearly, his success in basketball ranks with the best ever.  Michael Jordan had an uncanny desire for greatness that embodied itself in action - that of practicing until he became the best he could be. His relentless persistence and unwavering commitment to achieving his goals differentiated him from the rest.

In light of the failures that Michael Jordan faced, it would have been easy to give up at any time during the process.  The first time he was entrusted to make the game winning shot and he missed could have been a setback that stopped him from trying again.  You too are faced throughout life with the same opportunities to fold or grow.

Our goals may not be as grandiose as becoming the best basketball player ever.  We may simply want to lose weight.  To get a promotion.  To have a meaningful relationship.  To spend more time with our families.  To learn a new trade.  To pass a course.

Whatever your challenges may be mastering failure is the key to an ultimately successful outcome.  You may be wondering - How do I master failure?  I encourage you to read the full article Fail Many Times for Success for tips and thought provoking questions to empower to move beyond where you have in the past.

Again, I'd love to hear your comments on my blog post, experiences you've had in overcoming failure, and your feedback on the full article.  Until next month.

Be Well
