TODAY'S ARTICLE: ARE YOU LIVING IN BALANCE? As
2009 rolls in with a new season of coaching clients, I am continually
reminded by the daily conversations we entertain about the importance
of 'balance' in living a happy and energized life. I for one
appreciate so much the opportunity to coach on this and similar topics
because for me it provides an almost daily reminder to slow down, to
put life in perspective, and to be conscious of that which I hold to be
of true value. I
consider myself to be extremely fortunate. In the last 3 months,
I've personally been challenged (in a positive way!), with the
busy-ness of the holidays, the birth of a new son, a series of new
years initiatives at work, the purchase of a new car (got to fit 2 car
seats in the back now), my wife's return to work, a new day care for
our children, the visit of the in-laws from Canada, capped off with
almost 100 of my closest friends and family attending a 5 year leukemia
remission party at our house a few weeks ago. Its been a rush of
events, but I consider myself blessed with all thats happened. In
addition, I truly appreciate that my clients, whether they recognize it
or not, serve as a constant reminder of just how important it is for me
to stay balanced in life when its so easy to get caught up in
everything that is happening in the moment. Our conversations,
while tailored to serve them, give me the personal check in that I need
to be continually reminded to keep life in perspective. I
write this article today because if your experience is like mine was
just over 5 years ago, you probably don't have a friend, colleague, or
family member checking in with you daily, weekly, or perhaps even
yearly to make sure that you are living a balanced, healthy and shall I
call it a 'well' life. Furthermore,
if you did have that check in, and if you are in the same place I was 5
years ago, you probably didn't listen! For those skimming this article because you are too busy for this 5 minute personal check in, then its you that I am talking to. It's my intent that these newsletters provide you with that personal check in. If
you are connecting with the message I am writing on today and you are
wondering how you can bring about a greater sense of balance in your
life, consider the following six components of wellness as a guideline
for developing your personal check in: You can read the full article written on each of these by clicking on the topic.
Rate
each of these items on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 represents that you
are not satisfied at all with the current situation, and 10 represent
that you are completely satisfied with this aspect of your life.
What stands out for you as you review your ratings? What
actions have you considered doing differently that may take you to your
desired state of being? Most importantly - how can you keep this
desire in the forefront of your attention such that you are continually
and consciously looking to create more plentitude in this area.
My conversations with my clients keep me grounded in this model
as I am forced to consider it each and every day. What will keep
you present to those aspects of your life you feel need to develop?
Develop a plan. Become serious about balance - make this review
part of your life like you would an exercise program or developing your
weekly to-do list.
Get serious about this and take a small action by listing your personal balance plan on my six components of whole person wellness
comments area for the world to see. Writing things down (and
doing so in such a vibrant community of readers), is a powerful step in
turning your ideas into a reality.
